My first post! I'm making this for two reasons. First, because it means that my journal will actually have a post—one that isn't LJ's standard welcome post, that is—and hence my account will be treated as "real" should I, say, be run down by a car. Second, because LJ's been playing me up the past few days so that, although I could make comments, I couldn't start posts because I couldn't access the "Post and Entry" editing page. Some problem with their new Rich Text editing software apparently. (Since I always use the HTML editor that just thrills me. But they've apparently got the bugs out; and, certainly, the page is now here for me to write in!)

So...my first post.

Good! It always weirded me out that you didn't have any posts... So now, here's your first comment ;-)

First Post is, I think, rather glad to be here to be seen.

Welcome to LJ posting, dear Greer, and finally being a "real" user!

Ah, well. Define "real user", eh?

I got a LiveJournal account back in 2007 specifically in order to join [livejournal.com profile] maryrenaultfics, which was just about to start a chapter-by-chapter (CBC) discussion of Mary Renault's novel The Charioteer. The focus was to be on the differences between the 1953 Longman and 1959 Pantheon editions. I'd spotted the cuts back in the '80s when I bought myself a paperback copy, having previously read a hardcover library edition; so I was keen to participate in the CBC. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, made a number of friends, and stuck around.

Since then, of course, I've made friends among the LJ Forever Knight community, and taken part in [livejournal.com profile] fkficfest. But it's the communities that drew me here, not the ability to blog.

Still, I've thought about posting more than once, I must admit.

TBTB at LJ seem to assume that everyone's here to blog, which I rather resent.
