First, let me thank you for writing me a story in one of the fandoms we share. I'm excited about all of them. I read a lot of detective stories and watch cop shows on TV. Casefic is one of my favourite genres; and I'm very excited to take part in an exchange where that type of story is the focus.
GENERAL POINTS:
REQUESTS:
Astreiant Series - Melissa Scott & Lisa A. Barnett (Nicolas Rathe/Philip Eslingen, Nicolas Rathe/Philip Eslingen & Istre b'Estorr, Nicolas Rathe/Philip Eslingen & Tersennes Monteia) - fan fiction
Biggles series - W.E. Johns (Algy Lacey & Erich von Stalhein, Algy Lacey & James "Biggles" Bigglesworth & Erich von Stalhein, Biggles & Algy Lacey & Ginger Hebblethwaite & Bertie Lissie & Erich von Stalhein, Ginger Hebblethwaite & Algy Lacey, Ginger Hebblethwaite & Algy Lacey & Bertie Lissie, James "Biggles" Bigglesworth & Erich von Stalhein, James Bigglesworth & Algy Lacey & Ginger Hebblethwaite & Bertie Lissie) - fan fiction
The Charioteer - Mary Renault (Gareth Straike & Aunt Olive; Solo: Aunt Olive; Solo: Gareth Straike) - fan fiction
Crossover Fandom (Jane Marple (Christie) & Aunt Olive (Charioteer), Jane Marple (TV - Joan Hickson) & Aunt Olive (Charioteer)) - fan fiction
DC's Arrowverse (Barry Allen & CCPD Crime Lab Staff, Barry Allen & David Singh, Barry Allen & Joe West & David Singh, Mick Rory & Leonard Snart & Lisa Snart, Solo: Barry Allen) - fan fiction
Forever Knight (Nick Knight & Don Schanke, Nick Knight & Don Schanke & Amanda Cohen, Nick Knight & Don Schanke & Joe Stonetree, Nick Knight & Javier Vachon, Nick Knight & Tracy Vetter, Nick Knight & Tracy Vetter & Joe Reese) - fan fiction
Lord Peter Wimsey - Dorothy L. Sayers (Lord Peter Wimsey & Charles Parker, Lord Peter Wimsey & Mervyn Bunter, Solo: Charles Parker, Solo: Mervyn Bunter) - fan fiction
GENERAL POINTS:
- I love stories that explore canon more deeply, whether through backstory, or elaborating the setting/history/culture, or exploring people's motivations and personal interactions.
- I prefer gen. DNW non-canon / relationships unless requested. I'm not asking you to ignore canon relationships; but please don't make them the focus of the story. I don't care for anything more than PG-13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me.
- In general, I like stories that are canon-compliant. Canon-divergent AUs are fine (including ignoring canonical character death). However, I don't want stories with AU settings (e.g. coffee-shop, fairy-tale, omegaverse).
- I'm okay with violence if necessary to the story; but not gore for the sake of gore. On the whole, I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. (I'm fine with having original characters murdered in casefic, and that sort of thing.)
- I enjoy comedy—being able to recognize the ridiculous when it pops up; also wit and wordplay. Having said that, I totally leave it up to you whether you write a serious or comic story—or a serious story with comic interludes.
- No second person fic, please. First person is okay, especially for book canons that were written that way by the author. However, I don't generally care for it with TV fandoms. Epistolary fic is fine.
REQUESTS:
Astreiant Series - Melissa Scott & Lisa A. Barnett (Nicolas Rathe/Philip Eslingen, Nicolas Rathe/Philip Eslingen & Istre b'Estorr, Nicolas Rathe/Philip Eslingen & Tersennes Monteia) - fan fiction
Casefic is an integral part of each Astreiant novel since, as a pointsman, Nicolas Rathe is essentially a police detective, often aided by his lover, Eslingen. The worldbuilding in this series is fascinating in its detail. On the one hand, you have the mundane aspects of Astreiant culture, with plots of kidnapping, theft, and smuggling: Monteia is Rathe's boss; and I'd be interested in seeing more of the "police procedural" side of Astreiant. However, this is also a world of ghosts and gods, where astrology rules everyone's lives. Rathe's friend b'Estorr provides mystical aid whenever the case involves the supernatural. I'd like something similar to canon but would be equally happy with either type of mystery.
I don't like anything more than PG13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. DNW first or second person fic. Feel free to include other characters from the series if you want. I'm fine with having original characters murdered in casefic or the like; and references to canonical deaths are okay. However, DNW any requested characters dying in the story.
Biggles series - W.E. Johns (Algy Lacey & Erich von Stalhein, Algy Lacey & James "Biggles" Bigglesworth & Erich von Stalhein, Biggles & Algy Lacey & Ginger Hebblethwaite & Bertie Lissie & Erich von Stalhein, Ginger Hebblethwaite & Algy Lacey, Ginger Hebblethwaite & Algy Lacey & Bertie Lissie, James "Biggles" Bigglesworth & Erich von Stalhein, James Bigglesworth & Algy Lacey & Ginger Hebblethwaite & Bertie Lissie) - fan fiction
I'd prefer a story set in the SAP era, since that offers the greatest scope for casefic proper. I also enjoy their evolving relationship with Erich von Stalhein, both as antagonist and as colleague, should you include him. I think I've requested pretty well every nominated "&" combination of the SAP and EvS.
If I say I'd like something similar to canon, that covers a lot of ground. Their missions run the gamut from catching spies to foiling heists to solving murder mysteries, any of which I'd be happy to receive. At this point in their careers, they are no longer adventurers but authorized law-enforcement officers. The case could therefore involve a stake-out or going undercover, though their role as pilots is usually relevant at some point. They operate as a small, close team; and their success is very dependent on their friendship and mutual trust. Whatever the type of case, I enjoy seeing the SAP acting as police officers, whether in Britain or with Interpol.
Feel free to include any other canonical characters appropriate to the period in which you set your story. I don't like anything more than PG13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. DNW crossovers or AUs, except canon divergence. DNW first- or second-person fic. DNW actual supernatural activity. I'm fine with having original characters murdered in casefic or killed in battle; and references to canonical deaths are okay. However, DNW any requested characters dying in the story.
The Charioteer - Mary Renault (Gareth Straike & Aunt Olive; Solo: Aunt Olive; Solo: Gareth Straike) - fan fiction
Both these characters could be described as "unlikeliest detective" types: Aunt Olive comes across as the quintessential twittery maiden aunt; and Straike is a socially conservative, rather unlikeable vicar. I particularly see them falling into solving village mysteries: who stole the week's church donations, pinched flowers from someone's garden, or sent poison pen letters. That sort of thing. However, as The Charioteer is set during World War II that opens up more exciting options, such as black marketeers, spies and collaborators, or escaped POWs. Or perhaps someone—a nosy neighbour or evacuee children—suspects one of them of engaging in such nefarious activities. Feel free to include other characters besides those nominated.
I prefer canon-compliant stories that are gen or character-driven mild romance. However, I don't like anything more than PG13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW second person fic.
Crossover Fandom (Jane Marple (Christie) & Aunt Olive (Charioteer), Jane Marple (TV - Joan Hickson) & Aunt Olive (Charioteer)) - fan fiction
Both these characters could be described as "unlikeliest detective" types: Aunt Olive comes across as the quintessential twittery maiden aunt; and, as such, makes a perfect partner for Miss Marple—or the perfect foil. Or perhaps one suspects the other of being too innocent to be true. Are they new acquaintances or have they known each other since girlhood?
As for the case: well, Miss Marple seems to encounter murder rather frequently; but, if you want to test her mettle on something different, that would be intriguing. As Aunt Olive comes from The Charioteer, which is set in World War II, they could be dealing with spies, threats of invasion, or black marketeering.
I prefer canon-compliant stories that are gen or character-driven mild romance. However, I don't like anything more than PG13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW second person fic.
DC's Arrowverse (Barry Allen & CCPD Crime Lab Staff, Barry Allen & David Singh, Barry Allen & Joe West & David Singh, Mick Rory & Leonard Snart & Lisa Snart, Solo: Barry Allen) - fan fiction
I'd like to see a focus on Barry as a CSI. We got a glimpse of him at work in the early episodes of some seasons; but this is, after all, the career he chose for himself, and still his day job. He could be in the lab or in the field, collecting and analyzing forensic evidence; or perhaps in court as a witness; or merely dealing with paperwork and colleagues (which, let's face it, takes up a lot of work time in real life). As for the case: it doesn't necessarily need to involve the "meta of the week"; but I've no objection if you do want to take the story in that direction. Barry could be called on to solve a non-meta crime for a change. Or he could be dealing with recurrent enemies such as Captain Cold and his Rogues. Flip that last one, of course, and you might have Cold and his friends trying to plan the perfect heist that can't be solved. Feel free to include other characters if you want.
I don't like anything more than PG13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. DNW soulmates, A/B/O, mpreg, wingfic, genderswap, kidfic. Canon-divergent AUs are fine; but DNW other types of AU. I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. I prefer the early seasons of the show. DNW second person fic.
Forever Knight (Nick Knight & Don Schanke, Nick Knight & Don Schanke & Amanda Cohen, Nick Knight & Don Schanke & Joe Stonetree, Nick Knight & Javier Vachon, Nick Knight & Tracy Vetter, Nick Knight & Tracy Vetter & Joe Reese) - fan fiction
While I know FK is usually described as a vampire series, I particularly love the cop aspect of the show. I like both Schanke and Tracy as Nick's partner, with or without the appropriate captain in the mix.
I'd like something similar to canon, but without the emphasis on Nick's vampire associates and history. Don't feel you have to edit out the fact that he's a vampire: his unusual abilities are often very useful in solving the mystery. However, I would prefer that this not be a vampire-related case, i.e. not a vampire perpetrator, vampire as victim, vampire from Nick's past, or involving the Enforcers. I'd like to see Nick (and whoever else) working on a regular murder mystery. This could involve a stakeout, going undercover, tracking clues and collecting evidence, and/or appearing as a witness in court.
I prefer gen; but I'm not asking you to ignore canon relationships. However, I don't like anything more than PG-13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW second person fic. Any other characters you want to include would be fine. Do feel free to ignore "Last Knight" if you want.
Lord Peter Wimsey - Dorothy L. Sayers (Lord Peter Wimsey & Charles Parker, Lord Peter Wimsey & Mervyn Bunter, Solo: Charles Parker, Solo: Mervyn Bunter) - fan fiction
I'd like either a canon-typical case solved by Lord Peter with the aid of Bunter and/or Parker, or else one in which, in his absence, one of the others has to manage to work it all out without his guidance.
The case could be murder or not. Theft, spying, forgery, mysterious lights in the dark—anything could spark the detective instinct. Perhaps something in the art or literary world? The unexpected auction of a hitherto-unknown first edition?
Any other characters you want to include would be fine. I prefer gen; but I'm not asking you to ignore canon relationships. However, I don't like anything more than PG-13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. DNW second person fic. DNW actual supernatural activity.
