At this point, three of the four stories I wrote for the Dead Dog Party on
fkcommentfic have been posted to FKFIC-L and put up on my website: "Gold Regrets", "A Cup of Coffee", and "The Flavour in his Mouth". Only "The Sun of Cairo" remains to go to FKFIC-L, though it is on the website. (I might have posted that this weekend, but instead wrote a ficlet in memory of last year's war.)
For "The Flavour in his Mouth" I simply couldn't come up with an appropriate theme for a background. Contextually, one might imagine a blood-themed graphic; but the story is from Natalie's POV, and she doesn't realize what's going on until halfway through. In the end, I simply picked out an interesting tile, basically in black & gold but with a muted lavender roundel, and then picked up on the lavender in the frame. It looks a bit exotic, which is maybe in keeping with the fact that it's an AU—plus Natalie finds herself decidedly disconcerted by events. In order that the page should have FK decorations, therefore, I used screen captures from Nancy Taylor's Knight Watchman site.
It's really quite a mixed bag, with pix snatched from quite a variety of episodes. However, I strove hard to find images that fitted with the story.
pj1228 commented here that I didn't use any pix of LaCroix. This is very observant of her, since there are two instances where you should (sigh) could interpret him into the picture. There's the sleeve in the close-up of the kitchen. And there's the vampire biting someone's shoulder. From the place in the story, that simply has to be LaCroix, since it is quite explicitly not Nick who looks up and sees Natalie in the bedroom doorway. But I got the picture from "Crazy Love"; so those are really Nick's glowing eyes after all. (It's from one of the scenes in the flashback where he's biting Amalia.) I used Microsoft Paint to "lift" the forehead a bit by copying up sections of skin, thus covering Nick's hair, since the curls on the forehead would have been a real giveaway. It's certainly not LaCroix's nose, though; so I'm not surprised
pj1228 wasn't taken in.

- Right up at the top, therefore, is a huge picture of Natalie coming into the loft at a time when Nick isn't there. (It comes from "Faithful Followers"; and we all know where he was for most of that episode!)
- Next, illustrating the awful moment when Natalie bursts into Nick's bedroom, there's a picture of a vampire with glowing red eyes biting someone on the shoulder. (I'll come back to that later.)
- Then there's a cropped-out pic of Nick's stove. Right at the edge of the shot there's a sleeve—and, at that place in the story it has to be LaCroix's sleeve, but, of course, it was really Nick's. The full-sized screen capture comes from "Night in Question". Cropped, you get a lovely close-up of the stove. It shows the kettle, and the blue tiled counter, and all those cooking utensils that I bet Nick hardly ever touches!
- The next picture has Nick drinking straight from a bottle of blood. That one came from "Black Buddha, Part One". In the original, we see Nick from a POV inside the fridge, angled out into the room. (I guess GWD was having fun when he set up that shot!) I cropped out just the bit where we see Nick, and then I flipped it round. In that way, the camera angle seems to be from the position of the dining table, which is where Natalie and LaCroix are in the story.
- The last two pictures are both close-ups of Natalie, cropped from "Amateur Night". I wanted a couple of "reaction shots"; and, so that her clothing would be the same in both, I had to get them from the same episode.
