Challenge #5: Talk about what has improved in your life thanks to fandom.

First off, I've made friends: first, when I joined the Forever Knight mailing lists, particularly FORKNI-L; and then when I joined LiveJournal and Dreamwidth communities, particularly [livejournal.com profile] maryrenaultfics and [community profile] fkficfest.

Second, I've done a lot of writing. It's true that, before I ever went on line, I wrote fannishly without an audience; but, both in the context of fandom-specific community activities and in the context of gift exchanges, I've done very much more—and more varied, in quite a range of fandoms.

I actually learned people... write... books... through fandom. Granted, I was young as fuck when I first read fanfic, but back then I used to think books would just materialize on bookshops. It never occurred to me people... wrote... books. We can all just write them. We can all just write them! And write, I did.

I tried creating original stories many years ago, but it didn't click for me like fanfic does, so I shelved it for an older version of myself. I now see writing as a hobbie, and I've got no plans on changing that anytime soon, so writing slowly and sporadically as I am doing rn is working out well.

I don't think I've done much writing, but I'm okay with the little I've got so it's all good. Happy writing for us both!
