Dear Trick or Treat Writer

First, let me thank you for writing me a story in one of the fandoms we share. I'm excited about all of them. They're listed in alphabetical order, so as not to play favourites.

I'm also greerwatson on AO3. Treats are enabled.

GENERAL POINTS:

  • I love stories that explore canon more deeply, whether through backstory, or elaborating the setting/history/culture, or exploring people's motivations and personal interactions.

  • I prefer gen. DNW non-canon relationships unless requested. I'm not asking you to ignore canon relationships; but please don't make them the focus of the story. I don't care for anything more than PG-13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me.

  • I love casefic; and, more generally, I like stories that are canon-compliant. The general exception to this is ignoring canonical character death if you want. Canon-divergent AUs are also fine. (There may be other specific exceptions.)

  • I'm okay with violence if necessary to the story; but not gore for the sake of gore. On the whole, I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. (I'm fine with having original characters murdered in casefic, and that sort of thing.)

  • I enjoy comedy—being able to recognize the ridiculous when it pops up; also wit and wordplay. Having said that, I totally leave it up to you whether you write a serious or comic story or, for that matter, a serious story with comic interludes.

  • No second-person fic, please. First person is definitely okay for book canons that were written that way by the author. However, I don't generally care for it with TV fandoms. Epistolary fic is fine.

REQUESTS (same as in my sign-up):

Astreiant Series - Melissa Scott & Lisa A. Barnett (Nicolas Rathe, Philip Eslingen, Ship: Istre b'Estorr & Nicolas Rathe, Ship: Philip Eslingen/Nicolas Rathe (Astreiant series))
Quite apart from the police procedural aspect of the series, the worldbuilding is fascinating in its detail. On the one hand, you have the mundane aspects of Astreiant culture: points and politics across all the books, along with dog races, theatrical production, and flower symbolism. There is the magical side: the astrology that rules everyone's lives, the ghosts and the gods. And, of course, there is the developing romance between Nicolas and Philip that runs through the series.

I don't like anything more than PG13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. DNW first or second person fic. I'm fine with having original characters murdered in casefic or killed in battle; and references to canonical deaths are okay. However, DNW any requested characters dying in the story. Feel free to include other characters from the series if you want.

Biggles series - W.E. Johns (James "Biggles" Bigglesworth, Erich von Stalhein, Algy Lacey, Mrs Symes, William Raymond, Ship: James "Biggles" Bigglesworth & Bertie Lissie, Ship: James "Biggles" Bigglesworth/Erich von Stalhein, Ship: James "Biggles" Bigglesworth & Erich von Stalhein, Ship: James "Biggles" Bigglesworth & Ginger Hebblethwaite & Algy Lacey & Bertie Lissie & Erich von Stalhein) — fan fiction, Treat
The Biggles books span a hefty chunk of the 20th century, from World War I to the 1960s; which time period you prefer to write about is up to you. However, I have a soft spot for the WWI period, not just because of the authenticity of the flying scenes but also because of the all too believable shift in Biggles himself from a daring, gallant, and very young hero to a tired, burnt-out veteran. At the other end of his active career, he became leader of a team of special service police officers during the Cold War. I find the close friendship among the colleagues with whom he shares digs to be very appealing. Especially fascinating also is his evolving relationship with Erich von Stalhein as they "bury the hatchet" of their antagonism, ultimately becoming friends.

I don't like anything more than PG13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. DNW crossovers or AUs (except canon divergence). DNW first- or second-person fic. Holiday fic is fine, but DNW actual supernatural activity. I'm fine with having original characters murdered in casefic or killed in battle; and references to canonical deaths are okay. However, DNW any requested characters dying in the story. Feel free to include canonical characters who weren't nominated if you want.

The Charioteer - Mary Renault (Alec Deacon, Aunt Olive, Gareth Straike, Laurie Odell, Ralph Lanyon, Sandy Reid) — fan fiction, either Trick or Treat
I'd like a seasonal story. I know that Halloween wasn't commonly celebrated in the south of England at the time this book is set. However, if you want to include Halloween, I'm sure you can contrive something plausible. Alternatively, you could write about Guy Fawkes Night (or the lack thereof, in war time). If you prefer not to write holiday fic, an autumn setting would be great, especially if you work in appropriate wartime references.

Either tricks or treats could have a spooky element, such as ghosts, premonitions, bad dreams, or superstition; but I'd prefer this to be atmospheric. DNW actual supernatural activity. If you prefer something more realistic, there's the horror of an air raid.

I prefer gen-type plots; but I'm not asking you to ignore canon relationships, since they're integral to the book. However, I don't like anything more than PG-13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW second person fic. Epistolary fic is okay.

DC's Arrowverse (Mick Rory, Nate Heywood, Ship: Barry Allen & Leonard Snart, Ship: Barry Allen/Leonard Snart, Ship: Leonard Snart & Lewis Snart & Lisa Snart, Ship: Leonard Snart & Mick Rory, Ship: Shawna Baez & Mark Mardon & Hartley Rathaway & Mick Rory & Leonard Snart & Lisa Snart) — fan fiction, either Trick or Treat
Perhaps my biggest regret about The Flash was the diminished significance of the various members of Flash's Rogues Gallery. They were always been a distinctive crew; and I'd love to see any or all of them, with or without Flash himself.

For the Rogues, could be a heist, get-together at Saints and Sinners, personal time, etc. If you want to include Barry, I like ColdFlash (esp. the snarky tease), but would prefer the emphasis to be on character interaction. Humour would be great; and I'd love a Halloween story.

Of course, Snart and Rory were also part of the Waverider crew. On the whole, I see the Legends of Tomorrow. I enjoy Mick with any/all the crew; and I love the bromance between Ray and Nate. Feel free to include any of the other crew members.

DNW AUs (apart from the Rogues as a group not being TV canon), but feel free to retcon Len's death. I don't like anything more than PG-13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW first or second person fic.

Forever Knight (Don Schanke, Janette DuCharme, Javier Vachon, Lucien LaCroix, Natalie Lambert, Tracy Vetter, Nicholas Knight, Screed) — fan fiction, either Trick or Treat
Casefic is always a treat; and I enjoy ensemble stories, both in terms of the detective story plots and the interplay at the station/morgue. An alternative ensemble might involve vampire characters, set at the Raven. If you prefer to focus on an individual, perhaps family/personal life/backstory (for human characters), or history/backstory (for the vampires). By all means include someone who wasn't nominated if you want. I like all three seasons equally.

Basically, I'm pretty easy on what you write, though my preference is for gen. DNW any rating higher than PG13, please. I prefer not to have requested characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. I'm fine with having original characters murdered in casefic, and that sort of thing. DNW first or second person fic.

In general I DNW AUs. However, feel free to ignore "Last Knight".

MASH (TV) (B. J. Hunnicutt, Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce, Charles Emerson Winchester III, Francis Mulcahy, Maxwell Klinger, Sidney Freedman, Walter "Radar" O'Reilly) — fan fiction, either Trick or Treat
I'd like something similar to the series, with the focus on the characters at the 4077th, whether on and/or off duty. Could be serious or rib-splitting funny; or a mix of the two (which would certainly be consistent with the range of moods in canon). This is very much an ensemble show, so feel free to include any of the nominated characters.

I prefer canon-compliant gen stories. DNW any pairing involving these characters. DNW anything more than PG13, please. DNW second person. Epistolary fic is fine; but please don't use first person otherwise. Holiday fic is okay.

Any or all! Mix'n'match. Combine prompts, if that tickles your fancy. Seriously, enjoy yourself.

I prefer gen, and love worldbuilding and character interaction. Nothing more than PG13, please. Maybe a little higher for violence, but no gore. Please keep any romance in the background (e.g established couples, families). DNW sexual activity in the story (prefer romance or established relationship). I prefer not to have main characters die; but I'm okay with deaths of victims in casefic and the like. DNW first or second person. Holiday fic is fine.
